Week Six 2019 Helmet Stickers
Week six saw some more tremendous individual and team efforts on the prep gridiron. The best of the best are celebrated with helmet stickers for their effort. Without further ado, the top performers from the weekend’s games:
–KY THOMAS, Topeka High – We start with the new career leader in rushing yards in the history of the capital city. Thomas entered the game against Washburn Rural needing 70 yards to pass Hayden’s Dan Davis for the record, and he didn’t waste any time getting there, breaking the record in fitting fashion. His 59-yard first quarter touchdown run showcased the best of Thomas – vision, elusiveness, and speed. It was the first of four touchdowns on the night for Thomas – three on the ground, and one a 24-yard reception. He finished the night with 271 yards on the ground (295 all-purpose) in a 42-28 win.
–JAMAVIAN GREEN, Washburn Rural – The big (6’3″) senior target hauled in a pair of touchdown passes of 22 and 30 yards as the Junior Blues gave the Trojans everything they could handle on Friday night.
–NATHAN ZEFERJAHN, Seaman – The Vikings established their power running game in their 45-6 win over Topeka West Thursday night, and it was Zeferjahn who led the way with a career day. He tallied 162 yards rushing – 157 in the first half – and a touchdown.
–XAVIER ALEXANDER, Topeka West – The Chargers had to love what they saw from the freshman Alexander in his varsity debut. He showcased speed and power in gaining 107 yards on 14 carries, and had their lone touchdown of the night, a five-yard run.
–T.C. THOMPSON, Hayden – Score on offense and defense, get a helmet sticker – it’s a hard and fast rule around here. Thompson accomplished that feat in Hayden’s 57-6 rout of Bishop Ward. In the first half, as part of a suffocating team defensive efforts, Thompson intercepted a pass and returned it 36 yards for six. Later, he found paydirt on a 63-yard run.
–DEFENSE, Shawnee Heights – The entire defense gets the nod for holding Leavenworth scoreless after the Pioneers took a 7-0 first quarter lead and for recording a safety. That allowed the T-Birds to come from behind and earn a 10-7 win to get back to the .500 mark on the season.
