Weather impacted the start times and the duration of many games this past weekend, but it didn’t have much impact on the play on the field itself. And there was some big time play by some local standouts. Here are the Helmet Stickers for Week Four…

–KY THOMAS, Topeka High – His team may have come up short in a 48-41 heart-stopper against Junction City on Thursday night, but the star senior did his part, rushing for 256 yards and a pair of touchdowns and also catching a 40-yard bomb from Da’Vonshai Harden for a score.

–DA’VONSHAI HARDEN, Topeka High – Hard to fault Harden for the Trojans’ defeat, either. He rushed for 164 yards and a pair of scores, including a dazzling 42-yarder in the fourth quarter. Through the air, Harden passed for 110 yards and hit Thomas and JP Deeter for touchdowns.

–DESMOND PURNELL, Hayden – He’s becoming a staple in this column. Purnell rushed for touchdowns of 4 and 39 yards to start the scoring for the Wildcats, and then took a screen pass to the house from 57 yards away for Hayden’s third score of the night. He finished with 97 yards of total offense as Hayden waxed Santa Fe Trail 36-6 in a game that was called at halftime due to weather.

–JOHNNY HOLLOWAY, Hayden. The junior is finding his comfort zone under center in his first season as a starter. He threw for a pair of touchdowns Friday night – the aforementioned screen pass to Purnell and an eight-yarder to Tim Wells.

–DONTREY JONES-WASHINGTON, Topeka West – The Chargers got into the win column thanks to a well-balanced offensive effort in their 52-16 rout of Highland Park, and the sophomore running back was the leader of the pack. Jones-Washington rushed for 90 yards and a touchdown in the win.

–BRAYDEN ZIRKLE, Shawnee Heights – Things got away from the T-Birds late in a 57-19 loss to Basehor-Linwood, but they traded punches with the Bobcats early on and Zirkle was a big reason why. He high-pointed a deep ball, taking it away from the defender, and sprinted the rest of the 74 yards to paydirt on Heights’ first snap of the game.
