Three City Soccer Squads Advance to Regional Finals

Three teams from the capital city will continue their seasons, and Topeka is guaranteed one regional champion, after round one play in boys soccer regionals on Tuesday.

Seaman and Shawnee Heights will play each other for the right to make the quarterfinals in class 5A after dominant wins. Heights rolled past Highland Park 10-0 while Seaman defeated Schlagle 6-0. That game is scheduled for 6:15 on Thursday night at the Bettis Family Sports Complex. The two teams met during the regular season with the Vikings earning a 2-0 victory.

Hayden is also on to a regional final in 4A after a thrilling 1-0 double-overtime win in Wichita against the Classical School. They have another long trip ahead of them Thursday night as they will battle Coffeyville. That game kicks off at 6 pm.

Elsewhere in city soccer action, Washburn Rural was stunned by Lawrence, 2-1, in their first round affair, while Topeka High lost 3-0 at Derby. In 5A, Topeka West won their way in through a play-in game, beating Bonner Springs 5-1, but their season ended with a 6-1 loss to Washington.
