T-Birds, Wildcats Claim Regional Soccer Crowns
Shawnee Heights and Hayden’s soccer seasons will continue after both squads won their regional championship games on Thursday.
For the T-Birds, it was sweet revenge as they blanked Seaman 2-0 at the Bettis Family Sports Complex. Heights had lost to the Vikings by the same score in the regular season. Senior Ethan Armbruster bagged a brace for the T-Birds, scoring once in each half, and senior goalkeeper Tyler Loy kept the Vikings out of his net.
Hayden left it late in their regional title game at Coffeyville, scoring in the second half on a set piece. Ethan Barrett’s corner kick found Pete Harrod’s forehead and then the back of the net with 11 minutes remaining for the lone tally in the Wildcats’ 1-0 victory.
Shawnee Heights will host a state quarterfinal against Washington this coming Tuesday at 6:15 pm. Hayden will travel south to Augusta for their quarterfinal matchup, which kicks off at 5:30 Tuesday.
