Nine City Tennis Players Medal At State
Three singles players and three doubles teams from the Topeka area claimed state medals at the KSHSAA Girls Tennis State Championships held across the state this Friday and Saturday.
In Class 6A, the Topeka High doubles squad of senior Beth Peterson and freshman Adisyn Caryl medaled thanks to a 12th place finish. In Class 5A, Seaman had a singles player and a doubles team medal. Senior Elise Schreiner placed 11th and the tandem of senior Emma Biggs and sophomore Grace Unruh placed seventh. Hayden saw both of their singles players and one of their doubles squads medal at the 4A championships. Junior Rhen Calhoon defeated her teammate, senior Marisol Blair, in the ninth-place match, so the duo finished ninth and 10th respectively. The Lady Wildcat doubles tandem of juniors Allyson Meier and Jenna Voegeli finished seventh. Those finishes allowed Hayden to finish third as a team in Class 4A, the best showing by any city team.
Shawnee Mission East was the team champion in Class 6A, with Kapaun Mt. Carmel winning the 5A crown and Wichita Collegiate claiming another 4A title.
