City Squads Prepare For State Baseball, Softball
Three softball teams and two baseball teams from Topeka are state tournament bound on the final week of the high school sports season.
The Washburn Rural Junior Blues and Topeka High Trojans are into the class 6A softball tournament in Lawrence. Rural enters as the #1 overall seed with a record of 21-0. They play Blue Valley at 11am on Thursday. Topeka High is back into the state softball tournament for the first time since 2005. They are the fifth seed with a 16-3 record and play Derby at 1pm Thursday.
Also competing in state softball are the two-time defending 5A champion Shawnee Heights Thunderbirds. The T-Birds went 19-1 and are the top overall seed. They take on Lansing in Maize this Thursday at 11am.
In baseball, Washburn Rural has returned to the 6A state field. They are the #3 seed with a 17-5 record, and will face Blue Valley Northwest at 5:45 on Thursday in Lawrence.
Seaman is back at 5A state baseball for the 16th consecutive season and are the defending 5A champions. With a 17-5 record, they earned the fourth seed and battle fifth seed Arkansas City at 5:45 on Thursday in Wichita.
