The first two-day state girls golf tournament in KSHSAA history wrapped up on Tuesday afternoon, and six city golfers took home medals for their individual performances.

In the Class 6A tournament at Carey Park in Hutchinson, Washburn Rural placed fourth as a team, with a team score of 741 that saw them finish 64 shots behind champions Shawnee Mission East. Three Lady Blues placed in the top 20, led by senior Cassidy McMaster in 11th place (92-86-178). Sophomore Kaitlyn Crough (92-92-184) ended up in a 14th place tie, and junior Madelyn Luttjohan (94-93-187) finished in a tie for 20th. Sophomore McKenna Merrick (103-93-196), senior Kasey Hamilton (99-100-199) and freshman Avery Scott (110-103-213) also competed for Washburn Rural.

Seaman’s Lois Deeter capped off her terrific freshmen season at the 5A tournament at Emporia Municipal by finishing in a tie for fifth with a scorecard reading 86-82-168. Her teammate, senior Molly Biggs (93-99-192), finished in a tie for 31st.

There would be no third consecutive state championship for Hayden in class 4A, but the Lady Wildcats still acquitted themselves well at Hesston Golf Course, as they placed fifth as a team with a two-day total of 802, 47 shots behind the champions from Buhler. They were led by a pair of medalists, as senior Haley Karolevitz (99-91-190) and junior Jensen Heideman (97-93-190) wound up as part of a three-way tie for 13th. Sophomore Kate Roeder (107-101-208), junior Emma Teply (108-108-216), junior Maura McInerney (117-106-223), and freshman Emma Teply (112-122-234) also finished for Hayden.
