The KSHSAA State Championships for boys and girls bowling were held Thursday and Friday at Wichita’s North Rock Lanes, and ten bowlers from the capital city earned state medals.

Washburn Rural’s girls placed seventh as a team in the 6A girls meet, with Campus winning the team title. The Lady Blues were led by Janae Peoples, who bowled a 581 series to finish 18th overall. Also taking home a state medal was Topeka High’s Allyn Watson, who finished 16th with a 589 series.

No teams from the city qualified for the 6A boys meet, but Washburn Rural’s Chase Clausing represented well with a fourth place finish. Clausing’s 702 series was one of just four to exceed 700 pins.

In the 5-1A girls meet, Seaman made a run at a state title but fell just short, finishing third. Makenzie Millard’s fifth-place score of 644 led the Lady Vikes. She was joined as a medalist by teammates Katie Price (11th, 598) and Kaitlyn Evans (18th, 553). Shawnee Heights was ninth and Topeka West 11th as a team, with neither team claiming a medal winner.

Shawnee Heights was the top finishing boys team from the city in 5-1A boys, taking fourth place. Alec Elskamp was fourth overall for the Thunderbirds, rolling a 739 series. His teammate, Peyton Olson, bowled a 669 to place 16th. Seaman was sixth as a team with a pair of medalists; Sturgis Streeter placing ninth with a 685 and Ethan Burns 14th with a 674.
