This week’s Azura Credit Union Athletes of the Week are Topeka West senior bowler Preston Millard and Washburn Rural sophomore basketball player Emma Krueger.

Millard and the Chargers entered three events last week, and Millard was the individual champion in two of them. He bowled a 624 series at Gage Bowl on Monday, helping West post the top boys score in that triangular meet, and a 663 series at West Ridge Lanes on Tuesday which included a 270 game. Millard is new to the Charger team as a senior after sitting out his junior season as a transfer from Washburn Rural. We talked to Preston about his unconventional bowling technique, getting an opportunity to bowl in college, what he loves about the sport, and more.

Krueger, a returning starter from last year’s 6A state champions, has found her groove along with her Lady Blues teammates in January. Rural has won six straight games since the calendar flipped, including a 42-40 triumph over Seaman last Tuesday in which Krueger made the winning basket with five seconds remaining. We spoke to Emma about how she developed her basketball skills, becoming a team leader, having a brother who is also a varsity player at Washburn Rural, and more.
