580 Preps Recap – Games of 9-5-19
Every sport but football was in action on Thursday evening, here’s how things unfolded for the Topeka area high schools:
CROSS COUNTRY

Hayden, Shawnee Heights, and Topeka West all headed east for the Basehor-Linwood Invitational.

GIRLS GOLF
On Wednesday, Seaman took second place in their six-team home invite at Village Greens, with Vikings freshman Lois Deeter’s 75 the top individual effort of the day by 12 strokes. Washburn Rural placed third, with their best effort a 91 from Ariahna Luarks. Shawnee Heights was fourth as a team with Makaila Astle’s 96 their best score.
Hayden took sixth place at the Hesston Invitational on Thursday. Jensen Heideman carded a 96 to place sixth overall and Hayley Karolevitz’s 97 tied her for ninth.
Washburn Rural participated in the Shawnee Mission East Lady Lancer Shootout at Milburn Country Club and placed fourth. Madelyn Luttjohan shot a 78 for Rural’s best score of the day and a sixth place finish.

GIRLS TENNIS
Hayden hosted a four-team event, while Shawnee Heights and Topeka High took part in the eight-team Emporia Invitational.
BOYS SOCCER
Topeka High got a pair of late second half goals to slip past Hayden 2-1 in a Centennial League battle. Mikey Ruiz had the goal for Hayden in the defeat.

Also in Centennial League play, Washburn Rural blanked Junction City.

Shawnee Heights opened up United Kansas Conference league play in dominating fashion with a 10-0 road win at Basehor-Linwood.
In non-league games, Seaman suffered their first loss of the season, a 3-0 shutout at the hands of Free State. Highland Park also fell in shutout fashion, defeated 10-0 by Schlagle. And Topeka West, in the second of their three games at the Blue Valley West tournament, lost 3-0 to Harmon.
VOLLEYBALL
Hayden hosted a Centennial League quadrangular that featured Highland Park, Junction City and Topeka West.

Seaman hosted a challenging triangular with state ranked teams from Lansing and Free State in town to test the 5A #4 Lady Vikes. The hosts dropped a hard-fought three setter to 5A #2 Lansing but rebounded to topple 6A #4 Free State 26-24, 25-18.
Topeka High made the trip to the Shawnee Mission South quadrangular. They were defeated by the hosts and by Shawnee Mission North, and also played against Basehor-Linwood.
Washburn Rural went to a tough Bishop Miege triangular. They defeated Gardner-Edgerton in three sets, 21-25, 25-23, 25-15 and also played Miege.
