580 Preps Recap – Games/Events of 9-3-19
There was action in girls golf, boys soccer and volleyball last night among the capital city’s prep teams. Here’s what transpired…
GIRLS GOLF
Seaman and Shawnee Heights competed at the Emporia Invitational, with the Lady Vikes placing third and the Lady T-Birds sixth out of six teams at the nine-hole event. Jade Thomas shot a 52 to lead the way for Seaman while Shawnee Heights’ best round of 56 belonged to Rylee Broadbent.
Hayden was scheduled to take part in the Piper Invitational at Dub’s Dread, but their team results were not available.
BOYS SOCCER
The Men of Troy were unable to open their season and home schedule with a victory, dropping a close one to Lawrence:

Ethan Barnett had himself a night for Hayden as they eased to a 6-1 win over Ottawa:

The Seaman Vikings got a late winner to get off to a 1-0 start:
Won our season opener in thrilling fashion 1-0 in 2 overtime’s. Jeron Poteete with the goal to win the game. Proud of these young men!

In their season opener, Topeka West allowed five second half goals in a 6-0 loss to Blue Valley West in the first of three games they’ll play as part of an invitational hosted by the Jaguars.
Finally, in Centennial League play, Washburn Rural routed Highland Park:

VOLLEYBALL
Hayden, Topeka High and Emporia got together for a Centennial League triangular, and the night belonged to the host team, who went 2-0. Emporia toppled the Lady Trojans 25-20, 25-15 in the night’s other match.

Shawnee Heights posted a pair of two-set victories, beating Manhattan 25-19, 25-10 and besting UKC foe De Soto 25-16, 25-18:

Both Seaman and Washburn Rural participated in triangulars on the road. Seaman beat hosts Olathe East in three sets and lost to Blue Valley in three sets. Washburn Rural beat hosts Shawnee Mission West 25-15, 25-12 and also faced Olathe North (result not available).
