580 Preps Recap – Games/Events of 9-26-19
GIRLS GOLF
Washburn Rural hosted an invitational at Wamego Country Club and had two top-ten finishers as the team took fourth overall. McKenna Merrick’s 84 and Cassidy McMaster’s 85 placed them tied for eighth and tied for tenth, respectively, as the team totaled a 351 score.

Hayden’s team also competed, with Jensen Heideman’s 94 their best score of the day and the team scoring a 434. Seaman’s outstanding freshman Lois Deeter played in the event and shot a 79 to finish third, six shots back of the winner.
GIRLS TENNIS
Washburn Rural claimed their fourth consecutive city tennis championship at Kossover Tennis Center. Rural sophomore Sheridan Wichman won the title at #1 singles, defeating Seaman’s Elise Schreiner 8-5, and her teammate, freshman Meredith Kucera, topped Hayden’s Rhen Calhoon 8-6 in the #2 singles final. The #2 doubles pairing of Hailey Beck and Kate Fritz, both freshmen, made it three wins for Washburn Rural as they beat Seaman’s Emma Dowd and Sarah Latendresse 8-4. The Vikings #1 doubles team of Emma Biggs and Grace Unruh took first place, topping Hayden’s Jenny Voegeli and Allyson Meier 8-2.
All told, it was Rural’s 25 points just edging Seaman’s 29 points for the team title. Hayden was third with 22 points, followed by Topeka High with 14, Topeka West with 12, Shawnee Heights with 10 and Highland Park with 3.
BOYS SOCCER
In Centennial League play last night, Emporia defeated Topeka High 6-1, with Jose Arellano scoring the lone Trojan goal. Seaman got two goals and two assists from Jerod Poteete, and Titan Cina and Kyson Evans also scored, in a 4-1 win over Topeka West. Highland Park edged Junction City 2-1, and Washburn Rural earned a road win at Manhattan:

In a non-league city matchup, Shawnee Heights blanked Hayden 5-0 at Bettis Sports Complex. The T-Birds scored four first half goals in the win.
