580 Preps Recap – Games/Events of 9-23-19 (Rural Rolls to City Golf Title)
Monday was a light night on the high school sports scene locally, but it did include the first city championship event of the season.
GIRLS GOLF
As has been the case for the last seven falls, the city girls golf tournament belonged to the Washburn Rural ladies. Five of their players placed in the top six as they won the city crown by an astonishing 54 strokes, shooting a team total of 324 at Western Hills. The day belonged to Rural sophomore Kaitlyn Crough, who fired up a 75 to win individual honors by seven strokes. She had plenty of teammates keeping her company at the top of the leaderboard, with junior Madelyn Luttjohan’s 82 finishing third after a scorecard playoff, senior Cassidy McMaster shooting an 83 for fourth, senior Kasey Hamilton placing fifth with an 84, and sophomore McKenna Merrick posting an 87 for sixth place honors. The only non-Blue in the top six was Seaman freshman Lois Deeter, who tied Luttjohan with an 82 and took second on the scorecard playoff. Shawnee Heights senior Rebecca Donaldson, Seaman senior Molly Biggs, and Shawnee Heights junior Sara Eggenberger rounded out the top 10.
Seaman was second as a team, followed by Shawnee Heights and Hayden.
