Action in golf, tennis, soccer and volleyball kicked off the week for city sports teams.
GIRLS GOLF
Washburn Rural placed third as a team at the Free State Invitational at Lawrence Country Club. Cassidy McMaster’s 85 was good for a seventh place finish and top marks among Junior Blues players. Kaitlyn Crough shot a 91 and Madelyn Luttjohan fired a 94 to finish in the top 20.

A pair of Seaman golfers also competed, with Lois Deeter shooting an 87 to place ninth and Molly Biggs scoring a 97 to tie for 19th.
GIRLS TENNIS
Topeka High and Washburn Rural took part in the Lawrence Invitational quad. Rural went 2-0-1 on the day, beating Topeka High and Lawrence and splitting with Shawnee Mission South. The Trojans were 0-3 on the day. Rural’s #2 doubles pairing of Kate Fritz and Hailey Beck were 3-0, and all other Rural players went 2-1 in their matches.
BOYS SOCCER
Highland Park earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory at St. Mary’s Academy in non-league play.
VOLLEYBALL
Highland Park hosted Topeka High and Shawnee Mission North in a triangular. The out-of-town visitors went 2-0 while the result between Highland Park and Topeka High is unknown.
