580 Preps Recap – Games/Events of 10-14-19 (Regional Golf Results)
GIRLS GOLF
Two city teams earned regional championships and three city squads qualified their entire teams for state in regional golf action on Monday morning.
In the 6A regional at Lake Shawnee, Washburn Rural dominated the field. The Lady Blues’ total team score of 332 was tops on the day by 49 strokes over runner-up Free State. Rural’s individuals swept the top four places and all six of their golfers finished in the top nine. Junior Madelyn Luttjohan and senior Cassidy McMaster each shot an 81 with Luttjohan taking first place over her teammate on the first hole of a sudden death playoff. Sophomore Kaitlyn Crough shot an 84 to finish third and senior Kasey Hamilton’s 86 was good for fourth. Sophomore McKenna Merrick shot a 92 and placed in a seventh-place tie, and freshman Avery Scott was ninth with a 93.

The 5A regional at Cypress Ridge was won by Seaman, with a team total of 394 that was 12 strokes better than Andover Central. Freshman Lois Deeter fired an 81 to finish second and lead the way for the Lady Vikes. Senior Molly Biggs and junior Molly McLaughin both shot 97s to tie for fifth. Seaman was also represented by freshman Jade Thomas (21st), freshman Aspen Burgardt (t-22nd), and sophomore Madyson Hardesty (26th). Shawnee Heights just missed qualifying as a team for state with a fourth-place finish, but three of their players are state-bound, led by senior Makaila Astle, who shot a 99 to finish seventh. Senior Rebecca Donaldson (t-8th) and sophomore Olivia Morgan (11th) will also represent the T-Birds at state.
Hayden placed second in their 4A regional at Winfield, finishing 36 strokes behind the hosts and qualifying for state again after winning the 4A crown each of the last two seasons. Senior Hayley Karlovitz was the top finisher for the Wildcats, placing third with a 96. Junior Jensen Heideman finished in a tie for ninth, sophomore Kate Roeder placed 12th, juniors Maura McInerney and Emma Tepley were right next to each other in 21st and 22nd, and freshman Ava Tepley played 31st.

Hayden played a non-league game at Bonner Springs.
