The city swim meet and girls basketball tournament action highlighted Thursday night’s schedule.
BOYS BASKETBALL
The Hayden Wildcats lost a non-league game to Cair Paravel, 86-63, despite 19 points from Vacarrio Triplett.
GIRLS BASKETBALL – TOURNAMENTS
Top Gun at Wellsville: Hayden lost their consolation semifinal game to Lansing, 48-41. Sophia Purcell scored 15 points to lead the Lady Wildcats in the loss.
Top City Classic at Seaman: The host Lady Vikes used a big second half to pull away from Shawnee Mission North, 65-47. They were led by Chloe Carter’s 17 points and Camryn Turner’s 14 points. Seaman is the only city team to advance to the semifinals, after Topeka West fell to Wichita Southeast 55-41 and Shawnee Heights dropped a tough one to Shawnee Mission East, 58-50.
Firebird Invitational at Free State: Topeka High blew out Junction City, 76-17, in their first-round game.
Glacier’s Edge at Emporia: Washburn Rural cruised in their first-round matchup against Wichita South, running away with a 55-25 win. Katelyn Brogan scored a career-high 13 points off the bench for the Lady Blues, with MaRyah Lutz and Brooklyn DeLeye each scoring 10 points.
BOYS SWIMMING
Washburn Rural claimed the city swimming championship, ending Seaman’s four-year reign as title-holders. The Junior Blues tallied 550 team points to edge out the 518 of the Vikings. Rural and Seaman combined to win all but one of the events on the day. For the Junior Blues, Dagen Clouse and Kyler Lamb each won two individual gold medals. Noah Florence was a double-gold winner for the Vikings. The Topeka High 200 freestyle relay team took home first place in that event as the Trojans placed third overall.
