BASKETBALL – TOURNAMENTS
Topeka Invitational: Lawrence brought home the TIT crown for the second year in a row, defeating Topeka West 53-52 in Saturday’s championship game at the Ken Bueltel Activites Center at Hayden. West settled for a runner-up finish for a second time in three years. Highland Park was victorious in the third-place game, beating Wichita Northwest 58-42. Topeka High defeated Hayden in the fifth-place game, 61-53. Hayden played just two games in the tournament, as their consolation semifinal against KC Washington was cancelled due to travel concerns on Friday.
McPherson Invitational Tournament: Seaman went 0-3 in tournament play, falling in the consolation semifinals to Junction City in overtime and to Wichita North in the seventh place game.
Dodge City Tournament of Champions: Shawnee Heights settled for a third-place finish after falling to a pair of top-10 teams in class 6A – #1 Campus in the semifinals and #6 Manhattan in the third-place game.
Basehor-Linwood Bobcat Invitational: Washburn Rural defeated Holton in a consolation semifinal on Saturday and will play St. Joseph (MO) Central in the fifth-place game on Monday.
Colby Orange & Black Classic: Highland Park’s girls came back from Colby with a win after beating DSST-Green Valley Ranch (CO) 72-12 in the seventh-place game.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
In a barnburner of a game at Seaman, the Topeka High Lady Trojans stayed perfect for the season with a 76-67 win over the Lady Vikes. The Lady Trojans sprinted to a 13-0 lead but couldn’t shake the stubborn Seaman squad all night, who got as close as six in the final quarter. Seaman knocked down nine three-pointers, but Topeka High went 8-for-13 from deep themselves.
Washburn Rural handled business on the road, defeating Junction City 59-34. Kasey Hamilton led three Lady Blues in double-figures with 19 points as the Lady Blues remained unbeaten in 2020.
Topeka West had a tough night offensively in falling to Manhattan, 45-15.
WRESTLING
Seaman placed second and Topeka High was twelfth at the 22-team Husky Invitational at Blue Valley Northwest. Dylan Williams’ second-place finish at 160 pounds was the best finish of the day for the Vikings, while Topeka High was led by Tre Thomas’s third-place finish at 220.
Highland Park sent their boys and girls to the Paola Invitational. Celeste Gonzalez was fifth at 155 pounds on the girls side while Morgan Dean took fourth at 220 for the Scots boys.
Shawnee Heights took second place and Topeka West was 17th out of 18 teams at the Gerald Sadowski Tournament at Holton. Charger heavyweight Robbie Malcolm took the 285-pound title, and Heights’ Caden Walker won the first-place prize at 145.
BOYS SWIMMING
Shawnee Heights and Topeka West were scheduled to compete at the Blue Valley Southwest Invitational.
Topeka High competed at the Shawnee Mission School District Invitational. Full results were not available.
BOWLING
Saturday was a big day for Topeka High bowling as their boys and girls each took first place at the Bishop Miege Invite, with the individual champions both Trojans as well. Majayla Boyd was the top-scoring girl, bowling a 554 series, while Cody Sullivan’s 706 series led all boys. Topeka West also competed, with their girls placing second and their boys fourth.
