580 Preps Recap – Games/Events of 1-18-20
Topeka High had the best showing of local squads at their home invitational, placing a close second out of ten teams. Matthew Cutshall took home first place honors at 152 pounds for the Trojans. Hayden’s Will DeVader claimed the individual crown at 182 pounds as his team finished eighth. The team results:
Seaman went down to Wichita for the Duwane Miller Duals hosted by Kapaun Mount Carmel. The Vikings lost to the hosts, but then defeated Olathe Northwest, Wichita Southeast, Liberal, and Campus. Landon Willard went 4-1 on the day at 145 pounds and is now over 100 career wins, while Dylan Williams went 4-1 at 160 and sits on 99 career victories.

Shawnee Heights placed third out of 15 teams at the JayHusker tournament in Marysville. Brock Ferguson won the 113-pound title, Caden Walker was second at 145, and Decker Stickelman (120) and Cole Manrose (182) each claimed third.
In Newton, Washburn Rural placed fifth out of 32 teams in the Tournament of Champions. Gavin Carter continued his unbeaten season at 195 pounds, taking first place with five victories to improve to 22-0. Bishop Murray placed second at 113 pounds for the Junior Blues while Andrew Davis was third at 220.
In girls wrestling, it was a winning weekend for the Lady Blues at the Ladycat Classic at Basehor. Individual winners were Jaiden Taggart at 109 pounds, Rebekah Smith at 170, and Daija Anderson at 235. Taggart remains unbeaten on the season at 18-0.

In the girls action at the Topeka High Invitational, the host Lady Trojans took first place, thanks to a winning performance from Cierra Ransom at 116 pounds. Topeka West had a pair of individual champions; Aaliyah Bruno at 123 pounds and Brianna Randles at 130 pounds. The results:
The Shawnee Heights girls competed at Shawnee Mission Northwest and had four girls earn first-place medals: Amelie Jungwirth at 116 pounds, Katelynn Thomas at 123B, Izzy Erickson at 136, and Maranda Bell at 191. Highland Park also sent their girls to the meet, with Celeste Gonzalez’s third-place finish at 155 their highlight of the day.
