580 Preps Athletes of the Week – Week of 9-9-19
WIBW and 580 Preps are proud to celebrate the achievements of local high school athletes with our weekly Athlete of the Week honors.
This week’s Athletes of the Week are Topeka High senior football player Da’Vonshai Harden and Seaman freshman golfer Lois Deeter.
Harden accounted for four of Topeka High’s touchdowns in their 44-7 season opening win against Shawnee Heights last Friday, rushing for two and throwing for two. He accounted for 176 yards on the ground, and 79 yards through the air. The senior signal-caller was an All-City Top 11 selection last season and is verbally committed to play football at Kansas. Harden was also an All-City basketball player for the Trojans as a junior. We spoke to Da’Vonshai about his team’s hot start, why he wanted to be a Jayhawk, if he’ll miss playing basketball, and more.

Deeter has played in two tournaments as a high school golfer and has won them both, including last Wednesday’s Seaman Invitational at Village Greens. In that tournament, Deeter shot a 75 to win the event by 12 strokes. The standout freshman helped her team to a second place finish in the event as well. We spoke to Lois about how she came to love golf, the best course she’s ever played, and more.
